Learning to speak a foreign language is an endeavor that requires effort and the right instructional materials. There are more resources available today than ever before thanks to the Internet. If you want to learn Spanish, podcasts can be a helpful tool. A podcast is much like a radio broadcast, except on the Internet. The podcast can be viewed or listened to online, downloaded to your computer and even placed on a portable media device like an iPod, compatible mobile phone or PDA. Any device with a digital audio player should work.


Because podcasts are like radio programs, they may only be held on certain dates at certain times. The good news is that you can often search the archives and download previous podcasts if you've missed any episodes. While podcasts shouldn't be your only method of learning a new language they can be very helpful. This is certainly a convenient way to study words and grammar. For example you can listen to your podcast at the gym using your mp3 player while you're working out. Or if you use public transportation you can listen while you ride. The more you expose yourself to the Spanish language the more fluent you will become.

In addition to using podcasts you may want to check out some free online classes. There are audio and video materials, downloadable worksheets, tests, quizzes and more. There are also online classes that you have to pay for. You might even want to try supplementing these methods with an instructional book like one by the Berlitz Language School which has been around for a long time. By listening to Spanish, reading Spanish, writing Spanish and speaking Spanish you will learn much more quickly. Immersing yourself in the language you hope to learn is definitely a helpful strategy.

When attempting to learn Spanish, podcasts, books and classes can take you only so far. The rest is up to you. It is important to study consistently. You should devote a certain amount of time each day for your foreign language studies. Students learn best when skills and studies are reinforced and practiced day after day until they become second nature. Whether you're preparing for a trip to Spain, training for a career as a translator or teacher, or you just want to learn Spanish, remember practice makes perfect!
